Another seminar at ICE: The use of online Wiki tools in
teaching and learning
On Saturday, January 25, a seminar entitled “The use of online Wiki tools in teaching and learning” took place at the Institute for Contemporary Education. The speakers were long-term ICE associates – Nebojša Ratković, Education Program Manager at Wikimedia Serbia and Filip Maljković, board member at Wikimedia Serbia.
The attendees learned about Wikipedia through theory and practice; they were introduced to the principles behind WikiProject and learned how to present Wiki tools and write articles on the Wikipedia platform. During the practical part of the seminar, the teachers learned how to check content availability, link different types of content, license content on the Internet and comply with copyright laws. Our colleagues were given practical advice on how to use an interesting approach to increase the availability of educational content on the Serbian Wikipedia together with their students. Here is what some of the attendees had to say about the seminar:
- “A very clear lecture; kudos to the speakers, Nebojša and Filip. Hopefully this cooperation will be continued.”
- “I have nothing but praise for the lecture and the assistance we received.”
- “I will recommend this training to my colleagues, as it provides us with an interesting method that enables students to write articles on Wikipedia about the topics that interest them. The seminar helped us understand how teachers can enhance the communication between students in a group.”
- “It’s great! Congratulations to everyone involved.”
Attendance at this seminar earned our colleagues and ICE members and associates the official certificate with eight points for professional development outside the institution given by the Institute for the Improvement of Education.
