Pixton online training program: Learn a quick and easy way to create educational comic books
The Institute for Contemporary Education would like to invite all education professionals to a new online IT training program Pixton that will take place on July 31, 2020, starting at 5 PM on the unique Distance Learning Platform of the Institute.
By attending this training program, you will learn a simple way to prepare educational comic books and use them as a teaching aid for mastering the teaching material. You will find out how to creatively fashion images and text, creating a unique teaching aid which will help you convey important educational information, and generate a cognitive, aesthetic, moral, and experiential effect in students.
Experimentally confirmed: Applying comic books in education positively affects the quality, quantity and durability of knowledge
Comics involve didactically and methodologically designed drawings aimed at activating students, i.e. encouraging visual-textual communication between students and comic book characters the purpose of which is completing instructional tasks, achieving educational outcomes and mastering the teaching content. Depending on the school subject in question, student age and teaching material, this educational resource may be used as an illustration of the teaching scenarios, source of educational information, a basis for encouraging educational student-teacher, or student-student discussion and exchange, or as an assessment and grading tool.
By familiarizing yourselves with the benefits of using comic books in teaching, you will get the opportunity to learn how to create a comic book, choose backgrounds, characters, or add expressions of behavior and movement, add text and accompanying elements in our training program. The lecturer will also show you why comics are a practical teaching method that can be used to manage homeroom classes. In addition, comics may also be used as an interdisciplinary teaching aid for linking the content of several school subjects – for example, Serbian language, mathematics and environmental science. In addition to the training in the use of digital tools, the lecturer will also share creative ideas from the teaching practice with you which may be applicable for students who study in accordance with the customized curriculum.
Who will be your lecturer?
Ljiljana Sokolović is a teacher at the Primary School Nikodije Stojanović Tatko in Prokuplje. She has been a teacher for twenty-two years. Her approach to teaching is characterized by openness to ideas, creativity, innovativeness, maintenance of a good social and classroom climate, support for experiential learning and development of life skills, as well as nurturing of tolerance and humanism. She actively works on strengthening student mechanical, cognitive, and affective competencies, all of which allows students to become more independent, so it is no surprise her students have won numerous literary, art, poem recitation and math competitions. Ljiljana has successfully competed in many educational competitions herself. Her demonstration classes and public classes can be found in several conference proceedings. She has participated in a significant number of international projects, and co-authored three projects. One of them can be found on the eTwinning platform. She is a member of the editorial board of the school paper. By taking part in various activities, she encourages and develops a socially responsible attitude in her students. She is one of the main organizers of various charitable, environmental and fund-raising initiatives at her school and her native town. She actively collaborates with the local museum, care center for children and young people with disabilities, town library, care home for the elderly, etc. She has been organizing fund-raising for the procurement of books to reward the best students in her class for seven years. Her papers and articles have been published in Prosvetni pregled (Education Review), Tabla magazine, and Topličanka portal. She is a member of the Association of the Best Teachers of the Former Yugoslavia and the Institute for Contemporary Education.

To join our online IT training program, register as soon as possible, because the offer is limited. Members of the Institute for Contemporary Education may follow the training program using their personal accounts free of charge. The price for other colleagues is 500 RSD. Applications are open until midnight, July 30.
