The lecture on grading attracted a lot of attention from the teachers
The Center for Career Development of the Institute for Contemporary Education organized the lecture “Grading that leads to learning”. The lecture attracted the interest of a large number of colleagues who attended the lecture and at the end joined the discussion and asked the lecturer a lot of questions.
The lecturer, Selena Vračar, presented grading as an integrative part of teaching practice. The importance of aligning learning goals at different levels with grading methods was emphasized. There was talk about authentic grading, grading in an online environment, formative and analytical grading, and the topics of interest to all teachers were also not bypassed, namely the criteria for forming grades and the fairness of grading.
Special attention was paid to the student feedback guide, and to the issues that need to be addressed in order for the grading to make sense for both parties. The lecturer also dealt with the effects of grading, and also highlighted the importance of self-evaluation and provided guidelines and instruments that can contribute to its development.
The lecture ended with the sentence: “Think of grading as something you do with the students, not as something you do to the students”, and all the colleagues who attended the lecture agreed with it.
